WHAT'S NEW FOR EZIP Ver. 1.1E
Released: September 1, 1993
by KMK Software
Welcome to EZIP Version 1.1E. If you've used versions 'B','C'or 'D' you
will notice the menu is changed to improve its organization and offer
additional features. My thanks to those brave early users whose
suggestions allowed me to make this version so much better.
The first changes you'll see are in the installation. It's cleaner
and smarter (it won't let you goof too badly before prompting you for
a correction.) and offers more options.
Version 'E' features the option to view files with either EZIP's own
viewer "EZVWR", or the external file viewer of your choice. (LIST.COM
is one such excellent, full-featured shareware program.) You can also
use an external ASCII editor to create or modify Zipfile comments.
Access to the README and HELP files is improved. You can now read them
with EZVWR (or your own viewer) directly from the menu.
You can convert Self-extracting zipfiles into normal zipfiles or visa
versa.
All the features you liked in version 'D' are still there. Zip entire
directories or specific files using DOS wild cards. You can view a list
of a zipfile's contents or actually view a file that is INSIDE a zipfile.
(Very useful for viewing README files.)
I hope you like this version and will take the time to send me your
reactions either via electronic mail to the BBS's listed under the
'CONTACT the AUTHOR' listing, or to the mailing address listed there.
SOME ADDITIONAL NOTES:
EZINSTAL.EXE:
1. You no longer have to Re-Boot after installation. To update the PATH
and SET EZIPDIR environmental variables, run EZSET.BAT. Also, for
the 'POWER DOS USER' (you know who you are), EZINSTAL.EXE creates a
customized EZIP.BAT that allows you to run EZIP from any directory
without having to include EZIP's directory in your PATH. Just put
it into your 'Bat-file' directory and use an ASCII editor to delete
the EZIP directory from the PATH line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
If EZINSTAL incorrectly reports insufficient hard disk space, just
override it and tell it to continue with the installation. The
Check-Hard-Disk-Space-Available feature uses a DOS Interrupt call
that some BIOS don't properly handle. (I'm guessing...).
If you don't customarily use or are unfamiliar with '.BAT' files,
don't worry about it. Just leave everything as it is and EZIP will
work fine. (If you're REALLY curious about '.Bat' files and how they
can improve your system's performance, or at least, its ease of use,
browse the EZREADME.1ST file for more details...)
{CAUTION: 'EZSET.BAT' MUST be run from the DOS prompt. If you try
to run it inside NORTON COMMANDER or WINDOWS, it will not work.}
2. Display and error-handling routines are slightly faster and more
comprehensive.
EZIP.EXE:
1. You can now add or strip zipfile comments, and turn a self-extracting
zipfile (with a '.exe' extension) into a normal '.zip' file.
2. There's a new option which allows you to delete the source files
after you've created a zipfile so that you don't have to go back
later and clean up the subdirectories. This option is for those
running up against "hard disk cram" who use PKZIP to save space.
The Main Menu contains a DELETE FILES option that permits either
deleting files from directories, or from within Zipfiles.
(Just another handy feature...)
3. The README file is now two files. The first, EZREADME.1ST, contains
installation/update information. The second, EZIPMAN.DOC, is the
user's manual for EZIP and is accessible from the main menu under
the "Other Useful Options" submenu.
4. The MAKE-DIRECTORY option was moved into the new "Other Useful
Options" submenu.
5. The main program runs a little faster now due to some code improve-
ment.
EZSET.BAT: (see EZINSTAL.EXE section above...)
These are the main changes to EZIP Ver. 1.1E. The others are mostly minor
cosmetic alterations. Version 2.0 is 'in development'and will include mouse
and .ARJ support for those who favor/require these amenities.
Thank you for trying EZIP!
